In the morning of 23/2/2012, PVFCCo in co-operation with Prey Veng Province Department of Agriculture organized a workshop to summarize the experimentation model of Phu My urea on winter-spring rice crop at Peam Ro District.
Attending the workshop were Mr. Kieu Som Bath– Vice Director of Prey Veng Province Department of Agriculture, Mr. Phun Son Phois- Vice Chairman of Peam Ro District, Cambodian Television and other mass media, technical officials ofthe department and district, village chiefs and more than 120 wholesalers and local farmers. The delegates and local farmers paida guided tour of the experimentation model and were given introductions and instructions on Phu My Urea usage skills onthe model field. Mr. Lum Paul, the field owner, was happy and excited to share that his field“had never before yielded such high productivity and that he would use the urea on future crops as well asadvisehis neighbors to follow his example. “
In the meeting hall, PVFCCo and Cambodian Branch’s offcials introduced to the delegates and the farmers about PVFCCo, the Branch, sales policyand wholesalers’ addresses. Also, the participants were provided with training on techniques of Phu My Urea usage and storage as well as advanced agricultural skills currently used in Vietnam for the farmers’ information and application. The participants were exciting to discuss and ask questions on fertilization, pest prevention methods, urea usage, etc to improve productivity.
At the workshop, Mr. Kieu Som Bath – Vice Director of Prey Veng Province Department of Agriculture said the model of Phu My Urea usage with technical application methods brought very good results with the productivity reaching 7 tons/ha, 3 tons/ha higher than that of neighboring fields;and the model of rice sowing method saved about 100 kg rice seeds/ha as compared to the traditional practice of sowing seeds of different varieties. This model was very suitable with directives of Cambodian Ministry of Agriculture and PreyVeng Province Department of Agriculture. Currently, the traditional farming practice andtheold habit of sowing different rice varieties result inrice frequently plagued with pests and raising cost; morever, lack of application of agricultural science technology results in low rice productivity. With the population increasing, the farmers must apply technical skillsto boost the rice productivity to ensure sufficient food.”
Mr. Kieu Som Bath also requested PVFCCo to keep supporting Prey Veng Province indeploying the experimental models, providing technical trainning for officials, wholesalers and farmers as this approach was pratical and highly effective.
In the evening of the same day, PVFCCo in co-operation with Kandal Province Department of Argiculture provideda training course on agricultural knowledge to agricultural supplies agents in the province. Atteendees included 170 agricultural officials and wholesalers. All trainees attended the class despite the hot, sunny weather and difficult traffic. Technical officials of PVFCco and CPC Branch presented trainees with introduction and training onagricultural engineering models sucessfully applied in Vietnam, fertilization techniques, pest control techniques, rice sowing techniques, usage of certified rice varieties, fertilizer storage techniques etc.
