September 21st is the traditional day of the PetroVietnam Fertilizer and Chemicals Corporation (PVFCCo). On this day in 2004, the corporation took over the Phu My Urea Plant from an international consortium of contractors and officially introduced products under the brand name “Phu My Urea” to the market. This marked the most significant milestone in its formation and development.
Before 2004, Phu My was a little-known place in Vietnam. However, since 2004, when the urea fertilizer product with the brand “Phu My Urea” was produced from offshore gas and supplied to all regions, the name “Phu My” quickly became familiar to millions of farmers across the country.
The introduction of Phu My Urea to the market had a significant impact on the supply and demand situation of fertilizers in Vietnam at that time. Previously, our country was entirely dependent on imported fertilizers and frequently faced unpredictable supply fluctuations. But with the appearance of Phu My Urea, the domestic market gradually stabilized, gained control of the supply source, and played a crucial role in the growth of agriculture, helping Vietnam become a powerhouse in agricultural exports worldwide. More importantly, with a self-reliant agriculture sector, Vietnam has stood firm in the most challenging periods, especially in recent years.
After two decades of construction and development, PVFCCo has now become and consistently maintains its leading position in the domestic petrochemical and fertilizer industry, aiming for regional recognition. PVFCCo is continuously recognized by reputable organizations as one of the most efficient listed companies on the Vietnamese stock market.
This position has not been achieved by chance or luck but rather as a result of the tireless efforts of its staff through the years. Most recently, the Phu My Urea Plant was awarded the “Excellent Operation” certificate by Haldor Topsoe (Denmark) due to its record-breaking continuous operation. Haldor Topsoe also recognized the Phu My Urea Plant as one of the best-performing plants using Haldor Topsoe technology in the world. This further adds significance to PVFCCo’s Traditional Day.
