On August 24th 2011 at PVFCCo’s headquarter, there celebrated a business meeting between PVFCCo’s leaders and delegation of Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation of Myanmar headed by Minister U Myint Hlaing. Presented at the meeting, there were Mr. Bui Minh Tien – Chairman, Mr. Cao Hoai Duong – President & CEO and other leaders. For the delegation of Myanmar, accompanied Minister were officials from the Ministry of Agriculture & Irrigation of Myanmar. In addition, representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, Bank for Investment and Development of Viet Nam (BIDV) also attended.. In this event, PVFCCo’s leaders have introduced Minister U Myint Hlaing about the formation and development process of PVFCCo as well as expansion plans to overseas markets, including Myanmar, and the possibility for cooperation with Myanmar enterprises. On his speech, Minister U Hlaing Myint shared that Myanmar is an agricultural country with great demand for fertilizer, but presently import is up to 80%. Myanmar farmers mainly use organic fertilizers which yield low productivity and output. Although Myanmar has significant gas resources, most of which are used for export rather than ingredients to manufacture fertilizer because Myanmar has not built a fertilizer plant yet. The Ministry of Agriculture Irrigation of Myanmar strongly encourages foreign enterprises to invest in the agricultural sector in Myanmar. The Minister promised to support and call on other authorities of Myanmar to help facilitating new investment implementation and product exports in Myanmar. In the past, Myanmar had been considered one of the leading rice producing countries, however its recent production was significantly narrowed in terms of both cultivated area and output. Presently, Myanmar government is trying to recover its agriculture and position on world agricultural markets. This will be a great opportunity for PVFCCo to implement the expansion plan offshore.
