Ban Khoang is an extremely poor commnue in Lao Cai Province. With its unfavorable terrain and severe weather conditions, the commune is often subject to heavy rains, floods, and frost. The minority ethnic people accounts for 90% of the commune population, and their living conditions are plagued with difficulties. In early September 2014, Ban Khoang suffered a flashflood causing the collapse of many rooms in the tenement house and seriously injuring many teachers. Therefore, the completion of the Ban Khoang public residential building for the primary school has a special meaning in providing stable accommodation for the school teachers, helping them focuson their teaching task. This is the second year in a row that PVFCCo supported Ban Khoang with construction works to facilitate education activities. In 2013, PVFCCo also sponsored the school with a sum of VND2 billion to build a domitory for local minority ethnic children.
