According to Vietnam Food Association, as at October 16, Vietnam”s rice export this year reached 6.098 million tons, worth USD 2.704 billion at FOB. On the world”s rice export market, Vietnam is overtaking India to become the largest rice export country of this year (as at mid-October).
From the beginning of the year to October 9, while Vietnam has exported 5.828 million tons of rice, India only exported 5.629 million tons, and Thailand 5.258 million tons.
However, according to the latest forecast of U.S. Department of Agriculture, India is likely to become the largest rice export country this year with 9.75 million tons. Vietnam will firmly hold on the second place established over years with 7.5 million tons. Thailand from the number one position in many years would be dropped down to the third place with 6.5 – 7 million tons.
