On the morning of April 6, in Hanoi, the Vietnam Red Cross Central Committee in coordination with the State Bank of Vietnam, the Border Guard High Command, the State Commission on Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, Vietnam Television, Radio the Voice of Vietnam, Vietnam Multimedia Corporation VTC, Military Telecommunications Group Viettel, Latsata Multimedia JSC and Miwon Vietnam signed a programme to forge partnerships in humanitarian activities for the 2013 – 2018 period.
Attending the ceremony and signing the programme were President Truong Tan Sang – Honorary chairman of the Vietnam Red Cross Society; members of the Party Central Committee: Mr. Vu Trong Kim – Vice-president cum General Secretary of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee; Mr. Nguyen Van Binh – Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam; Mr. Tran Binh Minh – General Director of Vietnam Television; Mr. Dinh Van Cuong – Deputy head of the Central Economic Commission; representatives of ministries, departments and international organizations in Vietnam.
The programme aims to bring into play the strengths of each organization in the performance of humanitarian activities, get more efficiency in helping the disadvantaged, eradicate hunger, reduce poverty, educate the national philanthropic tradition and deploy the Party and State’s social welfare policies. In particular, the programme focuses immediately on effectively implementing “The cow bank” project, building new rural areas and start the campaign “Each organization and each individual associates with a humanitarian address”.
At the ceremony, the State bank supported VND6 billion to “The cow bank” project and humanitarian activities; also added to the project VND3.5 billion by the Military Telecommunications Group Viettel, VND2.1 billion by PVFCCo under the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group; Petrovietnam Technical Services Corporation supported VND1.5 billion to build a kindergarten at Hoa Binh; Miwon Ltd. supported VND5 billion for the “Ligh the future” scholarship and humanitarian activities; Coca-Cola Vietnam supported VND2.1 billion; some Vietnamese overseas organizations supported VND100 million for the poor in Vietnam…
President Truong Tan Sang highly appreciated the implementation of the signing ceremony between the Red Cross Central Committee and concerned departments and units to forge partnerships in humanitarian activities for the 2013 – 2018 period. The enhanced partnerships between ministries, departments, businesses, domestic and international organizations and philanthropists and the Vietnam Red Cross Society will contribute along with the Party, State and Vietnamese people to make a better care to the material and spiritual aspects of the disadvantaged’s life. President emphasized: humanity is the nature and fine tradition of Vietnamese people, which is handed down and deepened from generation to generation throughout the history of our national construction and defense. To maintain this tradition, the Party and State always thinks highly and have a thorough grasp of humanity as well as adapt it to laws, policies, domestic and foreign activities of the country. Shortly after the August Revolution, President Ho Chi Minh founded the Vietnam Red Cross Society operating as the core and bridging connection to regulate humanitarian activities and President Ho was the first honorary chairman of the Society. Through the Red Cross Society, those who live in difficult circumstances of all classes, ages in all parts of the country received precious humanitarian aids from organizations, individuals, domestic and foreign businesses. Only for the campaign “Tet for the poor and the victims of Agent Orange” on the occasion of New Year of the Snake 2013, despite difficult economic circumstances, all the Red Cross stations across the country have mobilized the supports of nearly 2,500 businesses, over 4,000 offices and units and granted 1,506,298 gift sets to poor households, victims of Agent Orange, given support to many poor households across the country with the total value of over VND447 billion. “The cow bank” project, over the last three years, has mobilized and given 7,028 cows to poor households at 108 districts (33/62 households across the country were supported with the value of over VND52 billion).
President Truong Tan Sang also called on organizations and donors to continue their supports and actively join humanitarian activities held by the Red Cross Society, respond the campaign “Each organization and each individual associates with a humanitarian address”. Media agencies have to actively propagate the purpose and meaning of charity and humanitarian activities, praise organizations and individuals participating and contributing to humanitarian activities.
