On August 3, 2012, Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam – PVN) organized the “Launching ceremony of PVN-Index family”. With this ceremony, PVN-Index family is officially published and reflecting changes on stock prices and operations of enterprises in petroleum industry.
Currently, PVN has 32 affiliates being listed on stock exchanges, which make up 14.3% of total capitalization of Vietnam’s stock market. PVN-Index family has been developed and handed over to Petrovietnam Securities Incorporated (PSI) for the purpose of creating a full and transparent information channel to attract more investment into petroleum industry.
PVN-Index family includes three main groups which are: representative index, investable index and sector index. The representative index group contains all companies that have listed shares on Ha Noi Stock Exchange, HCMC Stock Exchange and Unlisted Public Company Market (UPCOM).
The investable index group, specifically PVN10, includes 10 enterprises leading on capitalization values, adjusted by number of freely traded shares (free-float market capitalization) and liquidity.
The sector index group of PVN-Index is classified in accordance with international standards ICB (Industry Classification Benchmark) developed by FTSE – UK. Such the standard is currently applicable to many sector indexes over the world.
The 3 group indexes as mentioned above are all calculated by two methods: price index and total return index to meet different requirement of the investors. In addition, PVN-Index family is available in four popular currencies including: USD, EUR, JPY và VND to facilitate foreign investors identifying their proper interests.
PVN-Index is the family index that meets international standards such as: (i) being caltulated by Day End and Real Time modes; (ii) being calculated in accordance with total return & price return; (iii) being calculated in popular currencies; (iv) being adjusted to balance and make sure that the proportion of each share does not make up over 15% each index – to reduce excessive influence of the bigger shares; (v) meeting the requirements on market capitalization and liquidity…
PVN–Index family has been developed and managed by an Index Committee including senior professionals and highly-respected members in petroleum industry as well as in international and local sector of economy, finance and securities.
PVN – Index has been published on www.pvnindex.vn website (Vietnamese and English available), financial media like Bloomberg and other local prestigious financial media.
