On July 10, 2023, PetroVietnam Fertilizers and Chemicals Corporation (PVFCCo) successfully organized a seminar to draw lessons from the annual general maintenance activities carried out in 2023 at Phu My Fertilizer Plant. The seminar was attended by Mr. Hoang Trong Dung, Chairman of the Board of Directors; Le Cu Tan, President and CEO; Mr Dao Van Ngoc, Vice President and Head of the Maintenance Committee, along with other Members of the Board of Directors, Chairman of the Corporation’s Labour Union, the Board of Directors of the Phu My Fertilizer Complex, representatives from functional departments of the Corporation, and 200 delegates representing the workforce involved in the annual general maintenance activities in 2023.
Phu My Fertilizer Complex has been operating for many years, which means that carrying out general maintenance becomes increasingly complex and challenging. This was the 11th cycle of the general maintenance (from March 28, 2023, to April 22, 2023) at Phu My Fertilizer Complex since its inception, involving nearly 4,600 tasks, including many additional tasks arising during the maintenance period. These difficulties and challenges were present, but PVFCCo’s advantage lies in its team of experienced experts, engineers, and employees who have been trained through previous maintenance cycles, along with active support from other units within the Corporation.
Therefore, prior to this maintenance period, PVFCCo made thorough preparations with multiple options and pre-calculated replacement materials. During the maintenance process, with dedication, responsibility, and creative spirit from the maintenance team, as well as careful guidance from the leadership, Phu My Fertilizer Complex completely controlled the schedule and quality of the maintenance work. As a result, this maintenance cycle achieved all the set objectives: the highest level of safety, the best quality, the highest cost savings, and the fastest progress.
In the seminar program, reports and presentations focused on analyzing and clarifying key topics and issues such as Overview and evaluation of progress from the preparation phase to the implementation phase in the maintenance work; Evaluation of the static equipment condition, reporting on the results of RBI (Risk-Based Inspection) after the maintenance, identifying equipment shortcomings, and making recommendations for the next maintenance cycle; Evaluation of the measurement and control system, identifying shortcomings, and making recommendations for the next maintenance cycle; Safety and security reports, evaluation of achievements and shortcomings, and recommendations for the next maintenance cycle. Attendees actively participated in the seminar, contributing their opinions on the presented topics as well as the maintenance work of the Complex.
Mr. Hoang Trong Dung – Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Corporation spoke at the seminar
During the seminar, Mr. Hoang Trong Dung, on behalf of the PVFCCo leadership, delivered guidance and praised the preparation and organization of the seminar program. The successful implementation of the 2023 maintenance work, meeting the set criteria, is of utmost importance in carrying out PVFCCo’s production and business plan for 2023. Mr Dung highly appreciated the quality of the seminar with focused, highly professional reports derived from practical experiences and open-minded feedback. He also highlighted some lessons to be learned for the next maintenance cycle, including:
- Regarding material preparation, it is necessary to establish classification and evaluation criteria for specialized equipment to propose and justify budget estimates for periodic repairs or replacements.
- Digital transformation should be given appropriate attention, including upgrading and replacing automation equipment to gradually build a smart factory.
- Continuously innovate the mindset towards maintenance work in the new context, as the plant has been operating for over 20 years.
- Develop and refine maintenance strategies to establish a basis for planning and implementation, with a focus on preventive maintenance to mitigate risks and increase maintenance cycles.
- Create opportunities for employees to learn and update their knowledge, and enhance their capacity by acquiring new technologies and information.
On behalf of the 2023 maintenance steering committee, Mr Dao Van Ngoc expressed gratitude and acknowledged the leadership’s guidance and the valuable contributions from the seminar participants in order to develop and specify plans for future maintenance cycles.
During the program, the Vietnam Oil and Gas Trade Union also commended and rewarded the collective efforts of the Phu My Fertilizer Plant workforce for their outstanding achievements in the overall maintenance work in 2023. Here are some images from the seminar:
