On July 16, in Cao Bang province, Petrovietnam Fertilizer and Chemicals Corporation (PFVCCo) in association with Vietnam Red Cross gave away 16 cows (10 million VND each) to 16 needy families at Kim Cuc commune, Bao Lac district.
To join the program, from the Red Cross were Ms. Nguyen Thu Ha – Acting Director of Social Works Division, Central Committee of Vietnam Red Cross , and Mr. Trieu Cong Doan, President of the Red Cross of Cao Bang; from the local Authority were Mr. Luong Xuan Mao – Deputy Director of Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Cao Bang province, Mr. Nguyen Cong Chanh – Vice Chairman of the People”s Committee of Bao Lac district, and Mr. Nong Quang Dinh – Secretary of the Party unit of Kim Cuc commune; from PVFCCo were Mr. Bui Minh Tien – Secretary of the Party unit of PVFCCo cum Chairman of the Board, Ms. Tran Thi Phuong Thao – Deputy Secretary of the Party unit of PVFCCo,Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Dung – Chairwoman of the Board of PVFCCo North, Mr. Truong Cong Minh – Director of PVFCCo North, as well as Red Cross” delegates, local Authority”s delegates and the farmer people.
This event was part of the PVFCCo”s 2,1 billion VND sponsorship (equivalent to 260 cows) assigned to the Central Committee of Vietnam Red Cross to develop a “cow bank” at remote areas in Ha Giang and Cao Bang provinces. In particular, 160 cows are being given to the needy families in 30a district, Ha Giang province and 100 to those in Cao Bang province. At these places, the Red Cross is conducting training and instruction on cattle growing techniques to those who are to receive cows, transfer advanced technology to its local officials and Red Cross volunteers of the beneficial areas (10 volunteers each province) and offer documents on cattle growing and family economic growth to the needy families in the project area.
Along with giving away cows, PVFCCo and PVFCCo North also gave away 2000 notebooks and 40 scholarships to the needy but hard working students in Kim Cuc commune, Bao Lac district, Cao Bang province for the school year to come.
Since 2010, the Central Committee of Vietnam Red Cross has reportedly mobilized and given away over 7,000 cows to 7,028 needy families at 296 communes in 111 districts in 39 provinces in which there are 34 needy families out of 64. The above cows have reproduced 1,285 calves to give away to other needy families nationwide.
The target is within two years 2013 – 2014 to mobilize 10,000 cows to give away to the needy people in the rest 28 impoverished districts and 1000 border communes. 3 months since the start up (June 4th to July 12th), the “Cow Bank – to stand with the people at the impoverished districts and border communes to build a new countryside” has received the response from over 200 institutions and individuals home and abroad with the money donated and promised of about 70 billion VND equivalent to 7,000 cows. 63 city and provincial societies alone have mobilized nearly 40 billion VND equivalent to 4,000 cows; all to well execute the Government’s Resolution No. 30a to sustainably and quickly decrease the poverty in poor districts.
