Ladies and gentlemen, although it is still over half a month before the time comes for the farmers to start harvesting this spring crop , in some places in Thanh Hoa Province, farmers have been harvesting earlier since several days before. It is worth mentioning that early harvest is not to run the typhoon or flood as usual, but because of early – maturing rice and high yield. As a result, farmers have to harvest before time to prepare land for the cultivation of the summer-autumn crop early. How farmers here can have such positive changes? Following are the reasons reported by “ Good morrning Rice” program:

Ms. Lai”s family and six other households in the village have started harvesting for two days.
On an average of 4 quintals per acre. This is the first time the fields gain such high productivity.
The price of fresh rice is currently about 6000 / kg, thus in this year’s spring crop, the fellow farmers expect to earn about 2.5 million / pole.

“This is the best crop ever and we are so happy this year. This year, the rice ripened earlier, therefore, we have harvested before time, the earlier the better. To tell the truth, the rice was less pestilent and grew well, thus we did not use plant protection drugs.”
To achieve the current results, Thieu Cong Commune were one of the first pilot localities to apply a demonstration model with close association among agricultural extension staff , prestigious fertilizer producers and farmers throughout the cultivation process.
Stricly follow the schedule, experts of the enterprise are responsible for monitoring and instructing the farmers directly from preparing land, dumping, sowing, fertilizing to spraying plant protection drugs. The enterprise also invited foreign experts from advanced agriculture to advise farmers.

“Poor quality fertilizers will affect the quality of rice. Therefore, the combination of fertilizer companies, agricultural extension staff and farmers must be maintained regularly.”
According to people in Thieu Cong commune, in the spring crop, thanks to the right using of Phu My fertilizers, common diseases such as rice blast disease, blight and brown backed leaf hopper appear slower than previous years; damage in most rice varieties moderate; and some blast-burned, silver-blighted, brownback diseases no longer exit.

And it can be seen that the model with the linkage of three parties , the local government, business and farmers, actually has brought a very high effect. Yield at 4 quintals per acre in the North Central region is really difficult to achieve.
However, it is not easy for any locality to do this, as the human resources of local enterprises and agricultural extension staff are very limited.
