In the morning of September 18, 2014, Mr. Bruce V. Tolentino – Deputy Director General of International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) visited and worked with PetroVietnam Fertilizer and Chemicals Corporation (PVFCCo). Mr. Tolentino has met PVFCCo leaders including Mr. Duong Tri Hoi, Vice President and representatives of relevant divisions of PVFCCo.
At the meeting, the two parties discussed on the role of IRRI in Vietnam’s agriculture development, possibilities of IT application on websites, computers, cell phones for rice nutrition and cultivation management in Vietnam in an effort to help farmers with timely and adequate fertilizing, increasingtheir income. The two parties wished to promote the co-operation between IRRI, Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Development and PVFCCo in order to put the above application in practice. Besides, Mr. Duong Tri Hoi expressed his thanks to the Management of IRRI for supporting PVFCCo over the years when PVFCCo sent its delegations of agricultural officers and typical farmers to visit and learn agricultural techniques at IRRI. In addition, Mr. Duong Tri Hoi also invited IRRI experts to participate in PVFCCo’s agricultural training workshops and expected IRRI to keep supporting PVFCCo’s delegations in visiting and leaning experience at IRRI in the time to come.
The International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) is the world’s largest research institute on rice varieties. Over 90% of rice output in the world is using genetic resources from IRRI and IRRI has created rice varieties for about 70% of rice growing area at present in Vietnam.
