Currently, Khanh Hoa province has more than 7,250 hectares of mango plantations, of which Australian mango accounts for over 50% and the annual demand for fertilizers on mango is very high (estimated at 7,000 tons of inorganic fertilizers of all kinds). According to farmers, Australian mango varieties are easy to take care of, and fast fruit. Mango with dark red peel will be sold at the price of type 1 and the one with green peel will be sold at the price of type 2 and the price of type 3 is only 30 – 50% of the price of type 1. Due to the great impact on coloring mango, farmers are very concerned about the types of fertilizer as well as their usage for mango. To meet that demand, from the beginning of the mango season in 2017, PetroVietnam Fertilizer and Chemicals Corporation (PVFCCo) has cooperated with the Department of Planting and Plant Protection in Khanh Hoa province to implement a demonstration model using Phu My fertilizer products: Phu My Fertilizer, Phu My MOP, Phu My NPK 16-16-8 + 13S + TE, Phu My NPK 15-8-20 + 10S and polysulphate for Australian mango in Cam Duc Town, Cam Lam District, Khanh Hoa Province. The purpose is to develop the process of using Phu My fertilizers suitable for mango trees, helping the farmers to achieve the high ratio of mango type 1, which is eligible for export.

At the time of harvesting, to evaluate the effectiveness of the model, on May 22, 2017, PVFCCo organized  “The workshop summary of demonstration model using Phu My fertilizers on mango”. Participating in the workshop were more than 90 farmers, who have experience in planting mango for a long time. They together evaluated and shared experience in mango care for high yield and most importantly is to harvest mangoes with good appearance in accordance with the export standards. Through directly visitting the mango field and enjoying the mango havested from the model, officials and farmers highly appreciated the mangoes taken care of by Phu My fertilizer products, which are able to meet the requirements of appearance and  taste  of  the  export  market.

Speaking at the conference, Ms. Trinh Thi Thuy Linh, Head of Khanh Hoa Plant Protection and Development Department, confirmed that Phu My fertilizer products were suitable for mango in Khanh Hoa province and initially brought high economic efficiency. Specifically, in the demonstration model, the indexes outperformed those of the comparative model – the model with the traditional fertilization method of the farmers, in particular: yield at the demonstration model was higher than 0.5 tones / hectare, while investment costs reduced by 10 million VND / ha and return profit was also more than 25 million VND / ha compared to the traditional model.

Not only for the harvest of this season, in order to have a long-term companion with farmers to cultivate mango in a stable and sustainable manner, right at this seminar, PVFCCo also committed that they would keep co-operating with the Department of Plant Protection and the farmers to use Phu My fertilizers in the post-harvest phases (recovering, flowering and fruiting, which are important for development and productivity as well as quality of the next seasons). This information has been welcomed by farmers. They also hope that in the furture, PVFCCo will continue to organize more and more agricultural technical assistance programs so that farmers can use the Phu My fertilizers effectively as well as effective cultivation, contributing positively to build Cam Lam Mango trademark and continue to have bountiful mango crops.
