Petrotimes – Phu My Fertilizer Plant keeps confirming its safe and effective operation ability and has reached the 6th million ton of urea on October 6, 2012 – after 8 years of operations.
This achievement not only contributes to ensure the stable domestic supply of fertilizer but also demonstrates the strong growth of Petrovietnam Fertilizer and Chemicals Corporation (PVFCCo).
Since the official operations from late 2004 to date, the urea output produced by Phu My Fertilizer Plant has met 40% domestic demand (total average of national urea demand is about 1.6 – 1.8 million tons/year) making PVFCCo become the leading fertilizer producer and trader in Vietnam.
On the occasion that urea production hits remarkable output of 6th million ton, it should be mentioned here the important role of Phu My Fertilizer Plant in the movement of initiatives and rationalization of production of PVFCCo. Among 415 initiatives benefiting about 200 billion dongs for PVFCCo, Phu My Fertilizer Plant owned 362 ones. In which, the initiatives in technical science field had accounted 92.8%. Initiatives in mechanical field gained highest proportion (41.9%) and followed by initiatives in technology (24.8%) and automation (18.3%) fields.
It also needs to mention the vanguard role of Union members and the youth in innovation movement of Phu My Fertilizer Plant. According to Mr. Ngo Xuan Truong – Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union of PVFCCo cum Secretary of Youth Union of Phu My Fertilizer Plant – the number of Union members has accounted 33% of total number of PVFCCo’s employees who played important positions in operation and maintenance team of the Plant. Statistics reveal that, in 2005 – 2011, among 415 initiatives and rationalization of production of PVFCCo, there has been 172 conducted by Youth Union members (equal to 46.7%) and more than 80 ones have been co-authored or joined by Youth Union members. At the Plant, initiatives of Union members and young people have helped reducing a number of incidents, downtime, rebooting time, maintenance and repairing time. These initiatives also help to predict the risks and problems that can be occurred, and so prepare for effective prevention measures. In spite of being unpaid, a number of initiatives still contribute to optimize the machines’ operation mode, help extending the machines’ and equipment’s life, resist corrosion and improve working environment conditions. At the same time, the initiatives have also been widely applied in Phu My Fertilizer Plant.
Some recent typical initiatives in Phu My Fertilizer Plant can be mentioned here are: “Bending the 2nd layer of Anchor before assembling in 10-R-2003” with benefit values of about 8.8 billion dong/year; “Solutions to maintain safe, stable and effective operation of the Plant without additional river water for long time” benefiting 6.1 billion dongs/year; “Rationalizing the operations to improve economic efficiency and safety for equipment synthesizing NH3, H2 Ammonia Workshop” with benefit values of 5 billion dongs/year…
Not only being the leading unit in promoting innovations and technical improvement, Phu My Fertilizer Plant has also been the “cradle” trainer of work forces for the industry. So far, the Plant has a team of more than 800 professional and skillful engineers and workers. It also has basic and specialized training for more than 3000 people, including practical training for 700 students – workers of Dung Quat Oil Refinery Plant, over 500 engineers and workers for Ca Mau Fertilizer Plant and practical training for other universities. With three training methods: Re-training, advanced training and overseas training, many workers have chances to follow higher education, improve and be promoted to engineers while many good engineers with effective operation and management methods have been placed in other key positions. 220 people in their thirties have been selected into Vietnam Communist Party which is rarely seen in other young entrepreneurs. It shows that Phu My Fertilizers Plant and PVFCCo are the land for “innovative trees” and the nursery garden of talents, visions and aspirations of the youth…
Phu My Fertilizer Plant with total domestic capital investment of 380 million USD has used ammonia production technology of Haldor Topsoe Group (Denmark) and urea production technology of Snamprogetti firm (Italia). In September 2010, the system recovering CO2 from flue gas being put into operations has increased the Plant’s capacity from 740 thousand to 800 thousand tons/year.
