PVFCCo – Phú Mỹ: 21 Years of Enduring Tradition in Innovation, Commitment, and Sharing
Enduring Innovation Fuels Growth
Over two decades since the Phú Mỹ Fertilizer Plant officially began operations, the memory of those initial days remains vivid for the pioneering engineers and workers. They faced profound challenges as they accessed one of the most modern and complex technologies in the region—a technology none of them had previously encountered.
The Phú Mỹ Fertilizer Plant was Petrovietnam’s first downstream project. Many young engineers, fresh out of university, were immediately challenged in a modern, demanding work environment where every operation required absolute precision. Among them was Mr. Nguyễn Hữu Tùng (46), an Engineer in the Measurement and Automation Workshop. After graduating with a specialty in Oil and Gas Project Automation in Ukraine, he was assigned to the Plant in its first year, taking charge of the technical control system and safety protection. He is one of the individuals who has been committed to the Phú Mỹ Fertilizer Plant since its earliest days of operation.
Mr. Tùng recalls the early days as a period of concurrent working and learning, constantly confronting difficulties, from the language barrier to familiarizing themselves with complex, massive equipment. Incidents occurred more than once, but the team viewed them as opportunities to train, gain experience, and ultimately find ways to prevent similar future occurrences.
“At that time, everything was incredibly new. In school, we only worked with small models; here, it was an entire colossal technology system. The technical language was primarily English, while many were only familiar with Russian. But instead of retreating, the team became more determined, sticking to the machines and the workshops, working, learning, repairing, and drawing lessons simultaneously,” Mr. Tùng stated.
This very persistence and effort allowed the team to quickly master the production line and ensure safe, stable operation of the plant. The first tons of urea produced were the crystallization of sweat, intellect, and the conviction that Vietnamese people are fully capable of conquering the world's most advanced technologies.
Innovation Driven by Production Reality
As the team grew accustomed to the work, the spirit of innovation began to flourish. They moved beyond merely "keeping the machines running," exploring and proposing thousands of technical improvements. From minor details in the control system to major changes in maintenance procedures, all efforts focused on the shared goal of cost savings, productivity enhancement, and, critically, ensuring absolute plant safety.
The Production Management Information System (PMIS), researched and deployed by Mr. Tùng and his colleagues, serves as a prime example. He noted that this was a highly complex project, demanding close cooperation across multiple specialized fields. Each individual handled a specific task, contributing their expertise to every calculation formula, line of code, and software interface detail. Without this specialized link, the project would have struggled to meet deadlines.
The success of PMIS not only delivered practical efficiency in optimizing operations and saving costs but also affirmed the capabilities and creative competence of Vietnamese engineers in developing new technology solutions. More importantly, it demonstrates the spirit of commitment, where every individual is an essential part of the collective strength.
Innovations driven by practical reality have helped the Phú Mỹ Fertilizer Plant achieve impressive records: a record output of nearly 920,000 tons of urea in 2022, cumulative output nearing 17 million tons of urea, and a world-class record for continuous, efficient plant operation (ranked 2nd globally). Every ton of urea produced is saturated with the effort and dedication of the engineers and workers who have been committed to the plant since day one. This achievement is not just a source of pride for PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ; it vividly confirms the innovative prowess of the Petrovietnam workforce.
Today, PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ offers more than just urea pellets; we have developed an entire fertilizer-chemical ecosystem: Phú Mỹ NPK, Phú Mỹ Organic, Phú Mỹ Xanh for diesel exhaust treatment... All bear the hallmark of innovation and the aspiration to reach further by people who initially took tentative steps into a new field.
Commitment to Customers
While engineers and workers at the Phú Mỹ Fertilizer Plant master technology to create high-quality product pellets, our market officers and agricultural engineers tirelessly cover the fields, bringing products, knowledge, and experience directly to farmers.
In the sun-drenched region of Đắk Nông, the image of young Trương Thanh Lương—a market officer for Phú Mỹ Đông Nam Bộ, a subsidiary of PVFCCo – Phú Mỹ—diligently working alongside farmers from the farmlands to the coffee gardens, has become familiar. For him, the job transcends merely introducing Phú Mỹ fertilizers; it involves sharing knowledge, providing cultivation guidance, and helping farmers boost production efficiency.
Despite his family residing in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Lương readily spends time away from home, braving harsh weather. He consistently visits farming areas, accompanying farmers from seasonal preparation to crop care. Technical training sessions, consulting on the effective use of Phú Mỹ fertilizers, and "field-staying" to evaluate results have become routine. Concurrently, Mr. Lương integrates information technology into his work, utilizing social media, customer management software, and crop databases to enhance monitoring and after-sales care efficiency.
Recalling the early days when farmers were hesitant, he chose to increase his presence and listen more, persuading them through dedication and demonstrable results. Consequently, confidence in Phú Mỹ fertilizers, particularly new products like Phú Mỹ NPK and Phú Mỹ Organic, has grown deeper. Phú Mỹ has become a trusted partner for farmers in the Central Highlands.
Active in his professional duties, Mr. Lương is equally enthusiastic about community activities organized with Phú Mỹ Distributors: giving Tết gifts to the poor, donating clothes, and running the "Zero-đồng Wardrobe" model for disadvantaged children and farmers. He believes that sharing not only strengthens the Phú Mỹ brand's bond with the community but also adds meaning and motivation to his own work and that of his partners.
Likewise, but on a broader scale, Mr. Nguyễn Lê Đức Trọng—a Master of Agricultural Science in the General Corporation's Marketing and Communications Department—diligently connects with farmers and specialized units across all regions and even international markets. With a strong professional foundation and nearly 15 years of commitment to agriculture and PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ, Mr. Trọng plays a vital role in analyzing, establishing, and managing the "soil health" nutrient map. This data then guides the creation of the Phú Mỹ product range and usage procedures for various crops nationwide, adhering to the "right fertilizer" standard.
He systemizes knowledge by crop type, growth stage, and specific soil region, providing fast, clear, and field-proven answers that help farmers reduce costs, increase yield, and enhance agricultural product quality. Mr. Trọng is also a key implementer of the Phú Mỹ Drone Project, successfully rolled out since 2024—a modern, scientific cultivation solution that boosts economic efficiency and protects farmers' health.
Mr. Trọng shared: “I always want to deliver value in everything I do at PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ, from sharing the knowledge and experience I’ve gained to introducing Phú Mỹ fertilizer products, whose quality I completely trust. Our products are not just good; they are constantly improving to be even better, and I always feel confident encouraging farmers to use them. My aspiration is for farmers to have excellent products, use them scientifically and economically, and truly achieve the abundant harvest, as reflected in the Phú Mỹ fertilizer slogan.”
The stories of these two individuals reflect the general image of the PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ market team: individuals who silently travel thousands of kilometers weekly, eating and sleeping alongside farmers to “see the sky, know the soil, understand the plant,” and sow the seeds of faith in the Phú Mỹ product. Across the regions, the Phú Mỹ market officers and agricultural engineers are present in the fields daily. They are the bridge of knowledge—the hands-on sessions on fertilization methods and the times spent calculating efficiency with farmers to secure a bountiful harvest create the distinction—confirming that Phú Mỹ is not just a product; it is a reliable partnership.
Over the past 21 years, PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ has organized tens of thousands of "effective fertilizer usage guidance" training sessions and thousands of "Phú Mỹ Farmer" programs. Today, leveraging modern technology to blend offline and online engagement, we continue to spread the common goal of helping farmers use fertilizer efficiently, boosting productivity and income.
Sharing Prosperity
The culture of sharing is another beautiful, humanitarian tradition of PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ. Over 21 years, nearly 27,000 Phú Mỹ Great Solidarity houses have become compassionate homes for people in remote areas. Over 300 health and education facilities have been completed and are operational across rural regions. Hundreds of thousands of scholarships, bicycles, Tết gifts, and disaster relief packages have been personally delivered to those facing hardship.
Simultaneously, programs honoring fallen heroes, visiting, and presenting gifts to families who served the revolution are frequently organized, in coordination with local authorities and the Fatherland Front. This is an opportunity for PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ employees to express deep gratitude for the great sacrifices made for the nation, reminding the current generation of their responsibility to preserve and promote the tradition of "drinking water, remembering the source."
Volunteerism is also intrinsically linked to the pioneering spirit of our youth. As shared by Ms. Nguyễn Ngọc Mai, Secretary of the Phú Mỹ Fertilizer Plant Youth Union: “Every summer, the Plant’s Union members disperse to various locations to execute practical projects and tasks—from repairing electrical systems and re-roofing homes to providing a 'Bookcase for Children,' creating 'Homeland Routes,' and establishing 'Garden, Pond, and Livestock Areas' at Brigade 162, Naval Region 4... Each completed project or task serves as a form of nurturing, tempering, and growth for our youth. Through these simple acts, we carry the affection and image of PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ to the community, allowing it to take root. The value and declaration of 'Sharing Prosperity' that PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ pursues is thus clearly and realistically perceived by society.”
With our unity, effort, and enduring tradition of innovation, commitment, and sharing, PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ will undoubtedly continue to grow stronger, contributing actively to the stability of Petrovietnam—a leading pillar of the national energy and industrial sector—and to the nation's era of advancement.
