PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ Expands Growth Horizons Through International Markets and New Products
(PetroTimes) - PetroVietnam Fertilizer and Chemicals Corporation (PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ), a member unit of PETROVIETNAM, is proactively expanding its growth runway along two parallel tracks: extending the global footprint of Phú Mỹ products and diversifying its portfolio from conventional fertilizers into specialized solutions, green fertilizers, and high-value-added chemicals.
This is not merely a business scale expansion, but a strategic shift in PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ’s growth model: transitioning from an enterprise primarily anchored in urea to a modern fertilizer and chemical corporation with an increasingly diversified product portfolio, target markets, and value chain.
Accelerating Global Market Expansion
Over two decades of development, the Phú Mỹ brand has been deeply rooted in Vietnamese agriculture. Alongside maintaining its domestic market leadership, PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ has progressively built its export footprint, establishing a solid presence across multiple countries and regions worldwide.

While exports initially served to balance domestic supply and demand—especially during off-peak local seasons—international trade in recent years has become far more proactive. This strategic focus generates additional sales outlets, diversifies the customer base, and capitalizes on favorable global market cycles.
India represents one of PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ’s key export destinations. Phú Mỹ Urea has repeatedly fulfilled large-volume shipments to this market, with single consignments reaching tens of thousands of tons. This track record affirms the Corporation’s capacity to participate in massive international tenders while satisfying stringent requirements regarding quality, pricing, logistics, and delivery schedules.
In the first half of 2026, PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ’s urea export volume exceeded 160,000 tons. The Corporation targets not only volume growth but also a more diversified and agile market structure: serving major fertilizer-consuming regions while expanding into high-standard industrial markets across the Asia-Pacific.
Significantly, this export trajectory is expanding from agricultural fertilizers to higher-margin specialized products. In April 2026, PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ executed an export shipment of 3,300 tons of technical-grade urea to international manufacturers of diesel exhaust fluid at a price of 900 USD/ton FOB Phú Mỹ.

Compared to direct-application agricultural urea, industrial-grade technical urea adheres to distinct quality criteria, particularly as a feedstock for DEF/AdBlue production. This transaction demonstrates that PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ can leverage its existing technology and manufacturing platform at the Phú Mỹ Fertilizer Plant to capture new market segments, integrate deeper into global supply chains, and increase value realization per ton of product.
This direction is essential as future growth cannot rely solely on increasing output of conventional commodities, but must stem from product quality, specialized applications, market breadth, and value addition.
Broadening the Product Ecosystem and Value Chain
In parallel with market expansion, PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ is cultivating growth directly from its existing product and technological foundation.
From its flagship Phú Mỹ Urea, the brand portfolio has expanded to include NPK, DAP, Potassium (MOP), Ammonium Sulphate (SA), specialized fertilizers, organic fertilizers, and biological products.

The launch of Phú Mỹ Organic marked a strategic expansion into solutions tailored to green agriculture and sustainable farming practices. Organic fertilizers do not replace inorganic nutrients; rather, they complement the plant nutrition ecosystem, improving soil health, optimizing nutrient uptake, and aligning with diverse crops, soil conditions, and cultivation methods.
By combining inorganic fertilizers, organic solutions, and biological products, PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ is systematically assembling an integrated "Inorganic – Organic – Biological" triad to deliver holistic nutrition solutions for soil and crops. Under this approach, Phú Mỹ moves beyond supplying standalone fertilizers to provide an integrated product and nutritional ecosystem that meets the demands of modern agriculture.
Simultaneously, PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ’s product scope has expanded beyond agriculture through technical-grade urea, DEF, and chemical products.
DEF - Phú Mỹ Xanh serves as a prime example. This solution is deployed in diesel vehicles equipped with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems to reduce harmful NOx emissions. PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ has commercialized the product and partnered with PetroVietnam Oil Corporation (PVOIL) to establish distribution across its retail service station network, directly serving transport operators and diesel fleet owners.

Critically, this product chain is developed directly from the Corporation’s core competencies. Using natural gas, the Phú Mỹ Fertilizer Plant synthesizes ammonia (NH3) and urea, which then serve as the platform for technical-grade urea and feedstocks for DEF/AdBlue production. Thus, from an identical foundation of raw materials, technology, and infrastructure, the enterprise develops multiple product streams for varied downstream markets.
While traditional urea serves agriculture, technical urea and DEF bridge the company into heavy industry, transportation, and emissions control. This enables PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ to extend its value chain from existing capabilities, unlocking new customers and addressable markets.
DEF also aligns with the broader strategy of amplifying the chemical segment. Leveraging the Phú Mỹ Fertilizer Plant platform, the Corporation has commercialized NH3, UFC85, CO2, and several specialized industrial chemicals. Expanding this portfolio maximizes the utility of PVFCCo’s infrastructure, technology, feedstock sources, and over two decades of operational expertise, while smoothing the seasonal volatility typical of agricultural cycles.
Over the long term, fertilizers remain the bedrock, while chemicals are projected to emerge as a primary growth engine—transforming PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ into an integrated fertilizer-chemical enterprise with an extensive and high-value supply chain.

Overall, these two trajectories operate synchronously: geographical expansion from domestic to international markets, transitioning from bulk commodity segments to high-standard niches; alongside product diversification from standard urea to NPK, specialized, organic, and biological fertilizers, as well as technical urea, DEF, and high-value chemicals.
A broader product portfolio grants PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ access to broader customer segments and markets. In turn, a deeper international presence demands elevated quality benchmarks, specialized product development, and participation in higher-margin value pools. This reflects a clear mindset shift: moving from "producing what the plant currently makes" to "delivering what the market requires, built on corporate core strengths."
Backed by more than two decades of brand equity, robust manufacturing infrastructure, technological capability, distribution networks, and international trade expertise, PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ possesses the foundation to continuously extend its value chain. While Đạm Phú Mỹ remains a cornerstone, future growth space will increasingly come from new markets, innovative products, and higher-value links across the fertilizer-chemical spectrum.
