Petrovietnam Youth: Pioneering from Production Lines to Community Homes
Petrotimes.vn | Phu My Fertilizer Plant, a member of PetroVietnam Fertilizer and Chemicals Corporation (PVFCCo – Phu My), stands as a flagship downstream unit of the Vietnam National Industrial - Energy Group (Petrovietnam). For years, the signature blue shirts of Phu My's youth have become a familiar sight in Ho Chi Minh City and the surrounding areas through practical, meaningful, and inspiring volunteer activities.
The most distinct hallmark of their contribution is the "Phu My Youth Works" project, focused on repairing residential housing and electrical systems. Here, professional expertise and youthful enthusiasm converge to bring light and safety to disadvantaged households.

Bridging Industrial Expertise with Grassroots Needs
At Phu My Fertilizer Plant, young staff are highly trained in managing advanced control panels, electrical cabinets, mechanical workshops, and world-class industrial automation systems. Leveraging these strengths, they transition from the high-tech environment of a global petrochemical facility to the homes of the underprivileged during the "Green Summer" campaign. Their mission: to mitigate fire and electrical hazards in degraded dwellings.
The Corporation’s Youth Union, in coordination with the Phu My Plant’s local chapter, refurbishing electrical systems for a disadvantaged family in Bau Lam (HCMC).
In recent years, the "Green Summer" campaign has focused on direct surveys, repairs, and the complete replacement of electrical grids, alongside refurbishing dilapidated structures for the elderly and impoverished in areas such as Lang Dai, Suoi Rao, and the Phu My region.
Rather than providing temporary aid, these volunteers focus on sustainable improvements to living standards. Old wiring is systematically reorganized, and faulty appliances—such as fans, light bulbs, and sockets—are replaced in accordance with professional technical standards to ensure long-term safety.

Precision in Every Connection
A notable aspect of this initiative is that the work is performed by the plant’s own engineers and technicians. Those accustomed to handling high-capacity industrial equipment now meticulously inspect every joint, weld, and socket in a small kitchen. Beyond physical repairs, they provide crucial guidance on electrical safety and energy efficiency, empowering residents to prevent future risks.
Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Mai, Secretary of the Phu My Fertilizer Plant Youth Union, shared that this residential electrical repair project is an annual fixture, supporting 5 to 6 households per year. Each case undergoes a thorough survey, with a budget ranging from 30 to 50 million VND, funded by the Corporation’s Youth Union activities. These funds are allocated directly to purchasing high-quality materials and equipment for the installations.

Cultivating Social Responsibility
For many families in extreme hardship, electrical repairs are often postponed due to financial constraints. This timely intervention provides immense peace of mind for the elderly and children alike.
"Integrating professional skills with volunteer work has created a unique identity for Phu My’s youth," Ms. Ngoc Mai stated. "We believe every activity should stem from our professional strengths. While repairing a house's electrical system might seem small, doing it with technical precision ensures long-term safety—a practical support for the family and the neighborhood. It also allows our members to sharpen their practical knowledge."
Beyond residential homes, the Youth Union also extends its services to nursing homes. According to the Secretary, these annual activities reinforce the social responsibility inherent in being a Petrovietnam employee. Young workers realize that their expertise serves not only industrial production but also the community's direct well-being.
A Legacy of Compassion
In addition to electrical projects, Phu My’s youth have left their mark through "Bookshelves for Children," educational gifts for underprivileged students, and collaborative care programs for policy-affected families and those who contributed to the nation.
"After each campaign, the most lasting impact isn't just the number of homes repaired or gifts given," Ms. Ngoc Mai reflected. "For every member, it is an opportunity to grow, to understand the value of labor, and to strengthen the bond between the enterprise and the community."
This close coordination between the unit and local authorities has built a resilient connection. The smiles of residents as light returns to their homes are the ultimate reward, affirming the practical value brought by the "Oil and Gas Youth." Eschewing vanity, they choose a path of silent, effective dedication—reflecting the industrious nature of the industry on its journey to serve the community.
