How Phu My Supports the Improvement of Agricultural Product Quality
Manufactured using European technology and with strict Cadmium (Cd) control, Phu My NPK fertilizer enhances the quality of agricultural products and expands export opportunities.
Since early 2025, China, Vietnam’s main export market for durian, has enforced tighter regulations on Cadmium (Cd) levels in imported durians. The allowed Cd level must not exceed 0.05 mg/kg in the edible portion. This poses a significant challenge for Vietnamese farmers.
In Đắk Lắk, a key durian-growing region, many farmers have switched to using Phu My NPK fertilizer to meet the new technical standards. This fertilizer is produced using chemical technology from Incro SA (Spain), one of the most advanced NPK production technologies currently available.
Input materials are rigorously selected: ammonia is produced at the Phu My Fertilizer Plant using Haldor Topsoe (Denmark) technology, while other materials are sourced from reputable suppliers in Europe, Qatar, Japan, and South Korea. This ensures that Phu My NPK maintains Cd content consistently below 0.25 ppm.

According to experts, this Cd level is significantly lower than Vietnam’s agricultural soil limit of 2 ppm and China’s upper threshold of 4 ppm (GB 15618-2018 standard). This gives farmers peace of mind in controlling Cd residue in crops, especially for export durians.
Ms. Chau Quyen, Head of Quality Control at the Phu My Fertilizer Plant, stated that while regulations have yet to set a Cd limit for NPK fertilizers, the plant proactively includes Cd as a monitored indicator, from raw materials to final product quality control.
Phu My’s modern technology produces uniformly sized fertilizer granules with optimal nutrient distribution, minimizing loss and improving efficiency. The product not only provides balanced nutrition but also protects soil health, reduces heavy metal accumulation, and ensures export-standard durians.
In Đắk Lắk—the largest durian-growing province in Vietnam—many households use only Phu My NPK throughout their plantations. Results show a 10–12% increase in yield, with large, evenly shaped fruits free from cracking or skin burns.
"I use 100% Phu My NPK for my durian trees. They grow strong and produce export-quality fruit. Importantly, the soil stays fertile, and grass still grows well," shared Mr. Bui Van Ta from Ea Kenh commune, Krong Pac district.
Many also report that the fertilizer works well with intercrops like pepper and coffee, thanks to its diverse formulas tailored to specific nutritional needs. Mr. Duong Van Dong, owner of Hanh Phuc Fertilizer Store (Krong Pac), noted that more farmers are switching to Phu My NPK due to its consistent quality and clear economic benefits.
Beyond product quality, PetroVietnam Fertilizer and Chemicals Corporation (PVFCCo – Phu My) collaborates with agricultural experts to conduct hundreds of training sessions across Central Highlands, Dong Nai, Tien Giang, and Lam Dong. Farmers are educated on Cd management in soil—from testing soil and water quality to implementing remediation techniques such as liming, using activated charcoal, and rotating crops that absorb Cadmium.

Additionally, Phu My is partnering with agricultural research institutes and international organizations to develop standardized cultivation processes that integrate advanced technologies such as sensor-based soil analysis, smart irrigation, and biofertilizers to enhance soil microbiology. These methods not only help control Cd levels but also improve the quality of durians in terms of taste, sweetness, and transport durability.
As Vietnam’s agriculture sector pushes for official export channels—especially to China—there is rising demand for clean fertilizers with traceable origins and international certification. Companies like Phu My investing in technology and working closely with farmers are paving the way for more sustainable competitiveness for Vietnamese agricultural products.
