PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ Wins Vietnam Oil and Gas Science and Technology Award with VND 3.157 Trillion Benefit Value

After more than 20 years of operation, the Phú Mỹ Ammonia Plant, under Petrochemical Fertilizer and Chemicals Corporation (PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ)—a member unit of Vietnam National Energy-Industry Group (PetroVietnam)—not only maintained stable operations but also continuously exceeded design capacity, reduced consumption, and expanded product lines thanks to thousands of technical solutions researched and implemented by its own team of engineers.

This achievement enabled the project cluster "Improving Efficiency of Phú Mỹ Ammonia Plant through Application of Technology Solutions and Optimization of Operations and Maintenance" to be honored at the Vietnam Oil and Gas Science and Technology Award, marking progress in PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ's technology mastery journey.

Over 2,000 Technical Solutions Developed and Implemented

The project cluster is the result of continuous research and improvement spanning over 20 years since the plant commenced commercial operations in 2004. More than 2,000 technical solutions were developed and implemented systematically, focusing on four main objective groups: capacity enhancement; operations optimization and feedstock-fuel consumption reduction; maintenance effectiveness improvement; and new product development and extended application. As a result, the Phú Mỹ Ammonia Plant operates stably while exceeding design capacity, significantly reducing production costs, enhancing product quality, and strengthening market competitiveness.

Many important technical improvements have been effectively deployed. The Ammonia workshop capacity was increased by approximately 20%, the Urea workshop was optimized to achieve 2,500-2,534 tons/day output without major capital investment, while significantly reducing energy consumption compared to original design. Parallel to technology optimization, PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ promoted advanced maintenance models such as Predictive Maintenance (PdM), Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM), and Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM). These solutions help reduce downtime, extend continuous operation cycles, and enhance equipment reliability.

Economic Value: VND 3.157 Trillion in Benefits

Beyond production efficiency, the project cluster has generated substantial economic value, with total estimated benefit value of VND 3.157 trillion. Development of new product lines such as smart fertilizers and high-tech NPK also contributes to product portfolio diversification, better meeting domestic agricultural market demand.

From an environmental and sustainable development perspective, technology solutions help reduce emissions, save energy, and advance toward carbon neutrality (Net Zero) by 2050. The Phú Mỹ Ammonia Plant is also recognized as a green-clean-beautiful industrial manufacturing model.

The Vietnam Oil and Gas Science and Technology Award is a deserved recognition of PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ's innovation and improvement efforts. It also serves as evidence, affirming the company's pioneering role in technology mastery capability, operations optimization, and digital transformation advancement in industrial manufacturing. This achievement further solidifies PVFCCo - Phú Mỹ's position in PetroVietnam's gas-electricity-ammonia-chemicals value chain, positively contributing to the nation's energy security, food security, and sustainable development objectives.

The Vietnam Oil and Gas Science and Technology Award commenced in 2015 with a five-year cycle. The award is reviewed and presented by PetroVietnam to honor outstanding science and technology achievements in the oil and gas-energy sector.
