From 01/05 to 16/5/2013, national rice export reached 233,645 tons, worth $95,756 million FOB and $105,798 million CIF. Since the beginning of the year, rice export reached 2,385 million tons, worth $1,038 billion FOB and $1,087 billion CIF.
According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), the value of national rice export since the beginning of the year surpassed $1 billion threshold. Domestic rice price last week continued to fall down following the trend in the context of global rice oversupply.
Last March, Haiti received the first batch of 400 tons of rice shipped from Vietnam. In the coming weeks, this country will take another two batches with the total of 33,000 tons of rice, enabling it to increase supply and reduce the pressure to increase the market price.
Thus far, rice exports completed about 30% of 7.5 million tons of the target set by VFA at the beginning of the year. In 2012, Vietnam exported 7.72 million tons of rice.
The world’s rice export market is in the flat period in term of prices and transactions due to oversupply.
