(source: pvn.vn) PVN’s President & CEO Do Van Hau’s business trip to the Russian Federation from June 16 to June 20, 2014 for attending the 21st World Petroleum Congress (WPC) in Moscow, the Russian Federation, resulted successfully. On this occasion, many important documents were signed, meetings with major partners took place, contributingto the enhancement and acceleration of the cooperation between Vietnam Oil and Gas Group and Russian petroleum corporations and companies.
World Petroleum Congress – WPC, known as the “Olympics of the oil and gas industry”,coveredall areas in the oil and gas industry, from scientific and technological advances in upstream and downstream to the role of natural gas and renewable energy sources, and management of socio-economic and environmental impacts of such sources.
In 2014, surpassing the U.S. and Columbia, Moscow was honorably selected by the World Petroleum Council to host the 21st WPC.As the biggest international petroleum event, it is where the cutting-edge technological, technical and scientific achievements are exhibited and introduced by petroleum companies world-wide. WPC is also where managers and leaders of petroleum and petroleum services companies meet to exchangeand update their experiences as well as sharing future developing trends of the oil and gas industry. The 21st WPC this year, with the theme "Responsibly Energising a Growing World", attracted over 100 leaders from state-owned and non-state-owned enterprises, 5000 delegates, 500 speakers, about 500 companies from over 50 countries and 25,000 visitors.WPC focused on 4 main sessions, with many sub-committees, forums and round-table workshops each, on (i) Exploration and Production of Oil and Natural Gas; (ii) Petroleum Refining, Transportation and Petrochemistry; (iii) Natural Gas Processing, Transportationand Marketing; and (iv) Sustainable Management for the Petroleum Industry.
In the framework of the 21st WPC event, Vietnam Oil and Gas Group had an exhibition booth with the participation of 6 member affiliates, i.e. PetroVietnam Exploration Production Corporation (PVEP), Vietnam – Russia Joint Venture – Vietsovpetro, PetroVietnam Drilling and Well Services Corporation (PVD),PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC), PetroVietnam Gas Joint Stock Corporation (PVGas),and Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Company Limited (BSR). Modernly designed and highlightingPetroVietnam’s potentialof petroleum exploration - exploitation, natural gas production and trading, refining –chemical-based processing, especially the capability to provide highly technical services of PVN member affiliates, PetroVietnam’s booth contributed to the promotion of and highlighting Vietnam’s traditional culture, thereby, thousands of visitors from various countries as well as international petroleum companies were attracted to it. On WPC opening day, Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang, who was then in Moscow to attend the 21st WPC, also visited PetroVietnam’s booth and highly evaluated PVN’s participation in this important event.

On the sidelineof the 21st WPC, on June 16 2014, in the presence of Minister Vu Huy Hoang, President & CEO Do Van Hau, on behalf of PVN, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Mr. Igor Sechin, President of Rosneft Group, and Mr. Sergey Kudryasov, General Director of Zarubezhneft, regarding expandedcollaboration on blocks 125 - 126, a number of open blocks and the blocks in other contracts in Phu Khanh Basin in Vietnam’s continental shelf. During the Congress, other important events, meetings and discussions between PVN’s affiliatesand their partners took place dynamically. Particularly, President & CEO Do Van Hau had bilateral meetings with senior leaders of other business partners and big groups of the Russian Federation as well as various international oil companies:

On 16th June, General Director of Zarubezhneft, Mr. Sergey Kudryasov, welcomed Minister of Industry and Trade, Mr. Vu Huy Hoang, and PVN’s President and CEOvisiting his company’s booth. In the discussion, within the framework of Vietsovpetro and Rusvietpetro joint venture, Minister Vu Huy Hoang evaluated highly the cooperation between the two petroleum companies of Vietnam and the Russian Federation. After being reported on the joint venture’s business activities, the Minister acknowledged the achievements and promised to give advices to related ministries and sectors of the two countries to resolve their current challenges.
On 17th June, President and CEO Do Van Hau had a meeting with Vice President of Gazprom Group, Mr. Vitaly Markelov. In the meeting, the two partnerswere straightforwardabout current problems incurred at the continental shelf of Vietnam and in the Russian Federationduring the implementation of the joint venture’s petroleum project. Particularly, PVN’s President and CEO requested Gazprom to review and approve the expanded exploration program at Block 112 in a prompt manner, as well as quickly resolve the bottlenecks related to gas price for efficient operation and hand over the Permit for Akobin oil fieldto Gazpromviet as soon as possible.
In addition, the two partners also discussed the way to promote cooperation between the two Groups in other fields,such as petrochemical refining, training and gas for motor fuel.

Also in this occasion, PVN signed a Mutual Agreement and Condensate Sales Agreement with Gazprom EP International. These are the two final documents to complete the procedure on legal participation of Gazprom EP International in the gas projects of 05-2 and 05-3. After the signing ceremony, in a meeting, the two partnersdiscussed about the working program of Vietgazprom JOC at the oil Blocks in Vietnam’s continental shelf. Specifically, the two partners agreed to accelerate the implementation of necessary jobs for additional drilling to increase reserves at Bao Vang and Bao Den oil fields. Besides, PVN’s President also agreed on how to deploy automotive fuel projects and to seek for joint investment opportunities in the 3rd countries such as Kazakhstan and Peru, etc.
